ABSTRACT

Selenium (Se) is an essential micronutrient for both human and animals. Plants serve as the primary source of Se in the food chain. Se concentration and availability in plants is influenced by soil properties and environmental conditions. Optimal Se levels promote plant growth and enhance stress tolerance, while excessive Se concentration can result in toxicity. Se enhances plants ROS scavenging ability by promoting antioxidant compound synthesis. The ability of Se to maintain redox balance depends upon ROS compounds, stress conditions and Se application rate. Furthermore, Se-dependent antioxidant compound synthesis is critically reliant on plant macro and micro nutritional status. As these nutrients are fundamental for different co-factors and amino acid synthesis. Additionally, phytohormones also interact with Se to promote plant growth. Hence, utilization of phytohormones and modified crop nutrition can improve Se-dependent crop growth and plant stress tolerance. This review aims to explore the assimilation of Se into plant proteins, its intricate effect on plant redox status, and the specific interactions between Se and phytohormones. Furthermore, we highlight the proposed physiological and genetic mechanisms underlying Se-mediated phytohormone-dependent plant growth modulation and identified research opportunities that could contribute to sustainable agricultural production in the future.

ABSTRACT

Due to the complexity and risk of liver anatomy and operation, laparoscopic hepatectomy is still a challengeable procedure. In order to acquire the optimal treatment effect, we need to comprehensively analyze the general condition, hepatic reserve function of patients, and the pathway selection before this surgery. Compared with open hepatectomy, the advantage of laparoscopic hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma has been widely recognized. Anatomical hepatectomy, regional resection technology, and precise hepatectomy promote the all-round development of minimal invasive liver surgery. With the navigation of indocyanine green and laparoscopic ultrasound, and the support of associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy, controlled low central venous pressure and other technologic revolution, laparoscopic hepatectomy is believed to bring new breakthrough in treatment of HCC. Although the number of HCC patients who underwent laparoscopic resection of is increasing, there are still numbers of problems, referred to technology applied and promoted, at home and abroad. This article aims to discuss the pathway selection, surgical indications and contraindications, transformation of concepts, technology annotation, and the control of complications in HCC treatment.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveWhereas data collection on subjective anthropometric measures is inexpensive and sometimes may be the only feasible option for large-scale population-based surveys, self-reported height and weight can be susceptible to measurement error and social desirability bias. In this study, we aimed to assess the level of discrepancy between self-reported and device-measured height, weight, and obesity indicators, and to construct regression models to predict corrected anthropometric measures using self-reported data. MethodsPaper-and-pencil-based health surveys were administered to all freshmen enrolled in Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Freshmen's height and weight were measured by trained staff using stadiometer and digital scale within one week following survey completion. Robust regressions were performed to predict corrected height, weight, body mass index (BMI), and overweight and obesity prevalence using self-reported data (N = 16,675). ResultsMale freshmen over-reported both height and weight, whereas female freshmen over-reported height but under-reported weight. Both resulted in underestimation of BMI and overweight prevalence. The predicted values based on robust regressions substantially reduced the discrepancy between self-reported and objectively-measured height, weight, BMI, and overweight prevalence. ConclusionsParsimonious regression models could be useful in obesity surveillance by predicting corrected anthropometric measures using self-reported data.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the feature and cause of stumps of amputees after Wenchuan earthquake, and study the effects of rehabilitation treatment for stumps. Methods Fifty-two cases with stump limbs post-amputation were evaluated, including stump skin status, stump shape, stump length, stump swelling, range of motion (ROM)of joint and strength of stump, and were treated with physical therapy, stump moulding and kinesiotherapy. Results The incidences of stump ulcer, stump swelling, conical stump, short stump and limitation of ROM of joint in all 52 cases were 76%,73%,34%,40%and 42%respectively.After rehabilitation treatment stump ulcers healed, stump swelling eliminated;stump shape,ROM of joint and muscle strength improved obviously. All poor stumps could be fit with the prosthetic limb and get good function. Conclusion The incidences of poor stump limb post·amputation after earthquake were high.Rehabilitation treatment can improve the stump condition.Early comprehensive rehabilitative intervention after amputation is important for fitting the prosthetic limb tO the stump.
